G spent 5 days in the Arlington shelter before his first adoption. His original adopters had him for 24 hours before they had enough of his bought with diarrhea and they returned him to the shelter. A member of the shelter staff brought him to the hospital where I worked at the time -The Alexandria Veterinary Emergency Service- for an evaluation of his "adoptability." I met him at 2am that evening. I opened his cage to take him for examination and found him sound asleep prone on his back with all four paws flopping in the air in imaginary pursuit. He was slow to wake, but quick to wag. I don't think I made it to the exam table with him before I realized this was going to be my dog. Since that early morning Grom has: 1. Lived with me in 11 different houses. 2. Survived a cross-country drive with me in a 89’ Honda Accord packed with a friend and all my worldly possessions. 3. Received at least three official notifications from various postal agencies -in at least two states- threatening to cancel home delivery due to his perceived disdain for all things mail related. 4. Lived peaceably (or at least tolerably) with at least a dozen other domestic animals (past roommates + the misses came with quite a few herself) and one small infant. In regards to the latter, I believe, he still holds out hope that it will one day be returned to where it came. 5. Been unanimously voted California Dog of the year 8 years running. 6. Been well worth the $50
