The real reason I'm going into shelter med is because of him. I found him through petfinder at a shelter in western KY, where the conditions were sub-optimal and I saw them struggling to do their best with very, very little. Ranger's my first dog and "human-animal bond" isn't just a buzz word to me anymore. I'm in my shelter rotation in my senior year right now. On my first day when I met the large quantity of dogs we were set to spay and neuter for upcoming adoptions, I had a bit of a breakthrough moment. What Ranger is to me (the most awesome dog in the world), these shelter dogs will (hopefully) be to their own new owners. It feels a bit like paying it forward. So in other math, I guess you could count the other shelter animals I'll be helping out in the next few years, too, thanks to a little inspiration from Ranger Joe.
