Shelter medicine programs have been established at several U.S.
veterinary schools to address research, educational and epidemiological
questions in animal shelters. The detection of infectious events within a shelter environment requires appropriate and fast
diagnostic tools in order to obtain information within
a animal population and to adapt the shelter management.
Beginning in December 2007, the Shelter Medicine Program at
the University of California at Davis and IDEXX Laboratories have teamed up to
make infectious disease surveillance more
