Services & Programs

We offer a range of services including:

  • Outreach and Support: Whether you’re contemplating change, launching a new program, or struggling through hard times, our collaborative coaching for shelters can help you find the best strategy for you and navigate the sometimes bumpy road to smoother processes and better outcomes.
  • Facility Design: Our facility design experts can help you get the most out of your existing facility or design a new one that gives your animals, staff, and community the best chance for success.
  • Student Training: The Koret Shelter Medicine Student Training Rotation allows fourth-year veterinary students hands-on experience with High-Quality, High-Volume Spay and Neuter (HQHVSN) while helping expand access to care to northern California communities.
  • Online Learning: Through the Shelter Learniverse, under the auspices of Maddie’s® Million Pet Challenge, and a searchable resource library jointly maintained by the KSMP and the UW Shelter Medicine Program, the KSMP offers self-paced online courses, webinars, and other resources for shelter veterinarians, staff and leadership.
  • Support for California Shelters: Through the California for All Animals program, the KSMP provides financial resources and other support to reduce unnecessary euthanasia and help keep pets and people together in our home state.

Our services can be comprehensive or focused on just one small area, such as management of one disease or improvement of specific housing.

With all our services, our aim is to provide shelters with practical, cost-effective advice that will help you meet your goals of animal welfare, health and live release.
