Nearly 120 of you responded to our recent survey—thank you! Your feedback is helping shape the future of KSMP content and programming so we can better support your shelter medicine practice and access-to-care efforts across the state.

We carefully reviewed all the data and your thoughtful comments; we’ve used both as the building blocks for our plans for the months ahead. Read the results here…

Here are a few emerging themes from what you shared:

  • You want more content on behavior management and enrichment, access-to-care program support, and organizational health topics such as leadership, workplace relationships, employee satisfaction, and retention.
  • You prefer hearing about real-world strategies and solutions other shelter veterinarians have tried and found effective.
  • When it comes to live events, you like them scheduled as late in the day as possible.
  • You engage with us most through Facebook groups, email listservs, and phone consultations, and there’s clear interest in regional meetups too.
  • Learning styles are split—some of you are deep divers, while others prefer bite-sized learning spread out over time.

Based on your feedback, here’s what’s coming soon:

  • California Shelter Fellowship Program – Our first-ever fellowship for early-career shelter veterinarians!
  • CAT! The Capacity Action Team (C.A.T.) – A California-based shelter consultation pilot program offering on-site outreach (more details coming next month!).
  • Webinar programming on behavior management, S/N support and updates to infectious disease control in shelters.
  • Conference sessions focused on shelter veterinarian support for access-to-care and practicing the “new gold standard.”
  • Shelter Medicine Conversations featuring guest shelter veterinarian hosts.
  • An updated Shelter Medicine website and Reference Library with improved search and new features.

We’re excited to keep building these resources with you and for you. Stay tuned for updates—and as always, we welcome your continued feedback as we grow this next chapter together.
