Karol Tapias, Deputy Director

Karol has loved animals ever since she was a young neighborhood pet sitter in her hometown of Bethel, Connecticut so she was thrilled to join the KSMP Team in February 2021 as the Deputy Director.

KSMP Deputy Director Karol Tapias

She comes to us from the Aging and Disability Business Institute at the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) based in Washington D.C., where she served as the deputy director. At the Business Institute she focused on building the capacity of community-based human services organizations by facilitating learning collaboratives, providing technical assistance, and developing tools and resources that those organizations could use to successfully adapt to a changing health care environment, enhance their business acumen, and capitalize on emerging opportunities to diversify funding.

Prior to her time at n4a, she worked at LiveOn NY, a membership organization for community-based aging services in New York City. Over her 12 years there she filled multiple roles, most recently as the Associate Executive Director. She is most proud of launching a successful direct service and outreach program, creating, and delivering training for the Aging Services workforce, improving internal organizational operations, as well as contributing to external systems change efforts. Previously, Karol also served as a counselor for adults living with mental illness.

In her spare time, she can be found hiking, camping, and traveling the world with her husband.

Karol earned her Master of Social Work degree and a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Iona College.
